First-fill bourbon barrels from Kirkcowan are more desirable than refill stock due to their stronger maturation profile. A 2019 fill sits in the 5–7 year “sweet spot” where buyers can see early maturity while still having long-term ageing potential. This cask is suitable for both continued development and bottling projects.
“Kirkcowan” refers to the private-cask spirit produced at Bladnoch Distillery in the Lowlands of Scotland. Known for its clean, unpeated style, the spirit responds particularly well to American oak maturation. First-fill bourbon barrels offer greater wood activity than refill barrels, providing sweetness, vanilla notes and bright fruit character while preserving the distillery’s light Lowland profile.

In-Bond refers to goods—such as whisky and wine—stored in a bonded warehouse where excise duties and VAT are suspended until the products are taken out for sale, consumption, or export.
